A extensão universitária é um dos diferenciais de uma faculdade. Isso porque é na extensão que os alunos confrontam a realidade local e colocam em prática a sua futura profissão. Isso faz total diferença tanto na formação do aluno quanto no desenvolvimento da comunidade local. Um dos destaques nesse tipo de projeto é a São Lucas Educacional que tem o programa Barco Saúde e Cidadania.
O programa visa atender a região do Baixo Madeira, onde ficam localizadas pequenas comunidades de Porto Velho, Rondônia. A ideia da Expedição Barco Saúde e Cidadania é levar atendimento gratuito de saúde às famílias ribeirinhas, através dos alunos e professores dos cursos Medicina, Biomedicina, Odontologia, Fisioterapia, Enfermagem, Nutrição e Direito do Centro Universitário São Lucas.
A Amazônia tem uma bacia hidrográfica de 7,5 milhões de quilômetros quadrados, com diversas comunidades ribeirinhas isoladas geograficamente e esse projeto tem o intuito de valorizar os povos amazônicos. As comunidades ribeirinhas são consideradas uma parte da população tradicional que mora nas proximidades dos rios e sobrevive da pesca artesanal, da caça, do roçado e do extrativismo. Por terem, em sua maioria, difícil acesso, esses povos acabem vivendo sem muitos serviços básicos, alguns inclusive sem energia elétrica.
Na última edição do Barco Saúde e Cidadania, em novembro de 2019, além de consultas e exames médicos, também foram oferecidos serviços para resgatar a autoestima das mulheres como maquiagem e sobrancelha, além de oficina de sabonetes. Outras atividades de esporte e lazer também são oferecidas e a novidade foi o atendimento veterinário, com consultas e vacinação.
